K23AG101527-01: Air pollution and dementia: An epidemiological approach integrating multimodal biomarkers
Although long-term ambient air pollution exposure is a common, modifiable dementia risk factor, uncertainty persists regarding the biological basis of this association. The central hypothesis of this proposal is that multiple co-existent mechanisms underlie air pollution-dementia association, and that this association varies based on magnitude and duration of exposure. This proposal leverages novels statistical methods and multimodal plasma- and neuroimaging-based biomarkers combined with clinical assessments to characterize the disease processes that link long-term air pollution exposure with clinical dementia in populations.
